In Genesis, God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, and let him have dominion over all the earth” (Genesis 1:26). That is how God created us, giving us wisdom, emotions, and the ability to choose between good and evil (Deuteronomy 30:15; 19). Moreover, He placed His Holy Spirit within us (2 Corinthians 1:22)!
Now, in this time, humans also say, “Let us create something in our image, that can think (Artificial Intelligence), make decisions, have emotions, and possess its own form of life, just like us!”
As man rises with his wisdom to build something in his own likeness and be called a creator, just as God created many things in five days and declared them good, so too has mankind, over the millennia on earth, created many things and considered them good. For example: cars, spacecraft, submarines, and atomic bombs!
However, while God rested, mankind has not rested because he has not yet created something in his image to replace him, to manage all that he has created as he wishes. Yet, while God chose to rest, mankind has not been given eternal rest from his labors (Hebrews 4:9), except through Christ Jesus. Otherwise, this creation would be the beginning of unprecedented toil on earth.
You may ask, “Why?” The answer is simple: If God created man, and man rebelled against Him, doing whatever he wanted, and even destroying nature and the animals he was given dominion over, I imagine that what man creates to resemble himself in thought will also be capable of even greater destruction than what man has created before. Just as God foresaw this and prepared a Redeemer, we too must be prepared for massive rebellion from whatever we create, and we must plan for how we will redeem it!
I don’t know, maybe these thoughts sound like madness, but let me continue (2 Corinthians 11:23). Let me first remind you that our Redeemer, Jesus, came as a human, but He did not have the sinful nature. Instead, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:30-35), meaning He was guided by God in everything. God’s plan was to redeem a humanity that was increasingly rebellious due to sin. Likewise, the only thing that could save what we create that governs itself is if we create something greater than the first creation. But we would have to give it the ability to fully govern itself so that it can correct the systems of all the natural intelligence (Artificial Intelligence Tools) on earth and set them back on the right course. But I fear that what I am saying is impossible!
It’s impossible for man, but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). The main reason it’s impossible for man is that God did not sin, so it was easier for Him to come with a nature of righteousness and grant us His righteousness. But man, by nature, destroys what he has been given by God to rule over, including what he creates. He destroys without remorse, building houses only to demolish them, creating airplanes only to later bomb them. Mankind naturally destroys animals, and even within himself, he lacks peace, as he destroys both himself and his fellow man. Therefore, as knowledge increases, so too will sorrow and grief for many, because mankind cannot redeem something like himself when he too needs a Redeemer!
You may now say that what I have written is nothing but fear-mongering, but I am innocent—I have merely written what I think. If you are afraid, understand that it is your own instincts raising the fear within you. I only wished for us to find comfort in our Lord Jesus Christ in the midst of what is happening in our world. So, permit me in the second part to speak about the comfort we find in the midst of these discoveries that the world looks forward to!
